Though cholesterol can be consumed through food, circulating cholesterol levels are primarily produced and controlled by the liver using the rate control enzyme, HMG-CoA reductase (HMGCR). It may also enhance the results of a statin or allow you to take a lower strength of a statin medication. When compared to statins, bergamot boasts less concerns for drug interactions and few side effects. Heartburn is the primary side effect observed and it can be mitigated.
It's suggested to take before a meals, but if that side effect is observed then the dosage should be reduced and/or spaced out throughout the day and taken with food instead.
