November 14, 2022
When allergy season hits and the regular medicines you take aren't cutting it, you're probably searching for another solution. Luckily, there are still quite a few things you can do to treat the symptoms you're experiencing! We want to share some of the top options with you. Watch us explain here, or keep reading to see 3 lesser known ways for treating seasonal allergies:
1. Chlorpheniramine
Chlorpheniramine is a great option when treating seasonal allergies. This medicine is ideal for itchy or water eyes, sneezing, itchy nose or throat, and runny nose caused by seasonal allergies. This is a class of medication called antihistamines, which is used to block the action of histamines, a substance in the body that causes allergy symptoms. You can take 1 dose every 4 hours as needed. It might cause drowsiness, but this isn't too likely.
2. North Century Pharmacy's ALL CLEAR
North Century Pharmacy's ALL CLEAR is a blend of antioxidants, flavonoids, proteolytic enzymes, and botanicals. It stabilizes mast cells, which are what overreact, destabilize, and release histamines. Some of the major benefits of using this medicine for treating seasonal allergies are supporting sinus and respiratory health, clearing nasal passages, and promoting normal mucus viscosity. When starting therapy, you should complete a loading phase and take 2 capsules 3 times a day for 7 to 10 days or as recommended by your primary care physician. If you are taking this as maintenance, then you should take 2 capsules per day as recommended by your primary care physician.
3. Sinus Irrigation System
Maybe you've heard of a sinus irrigation system, but if you haven't, this device is used to clear mucus out of nasal passages using a saline solution. Usually, sinuses are able to clear themselves, but when you have allergies, they get stopped up. When this occurs, bacteria and irritants take longer to exit your nose, which can lead to congestion and sinus infections.
There are several different kinds of systems, including Neti pots and rinse bottles. Some come with their own saline solutions, and others will require you to create the solution. You can use distilled water, but if you have to use tap water, it must be sterilized before you use it.
To use these systems, you will need to stand over the sink. Place the tip of the device on one nostril and gently squeeze the solution into your nose. It will come out the other nostril, and you should have some relief.
At North Century Pharmacy, we medicate our sinus irrigation systems (Neti Flo bottles) with steroids, mucolytics, and/or antihistamines to address a variety of nasal health issues.
Now you know about some of the lesser known ways for treating seasonal allergies! Hopefully these help you during allergy season to get some relief and prevent sinus infections. Want to learn more about the products Easton talks about in his videos? See some of his top picks here!
